I was reading stories to Ryan before bed time. He was sitting on my lap. He seem to be really squirmy. Then I realized that he does not fit on my lap. He does when he is sitting up but I was holding him like a baby and his little legs were dangling down. After stories we were saying our prayers and I was talking to him. He started to fall asleep in my arms, I kept rocking him. I remember when he was the size of Rexer's forearm. When did he get so big. I continued to rock him until he was asleep. My arm was asleep, but it was totally worth it. As I moved he woke up a little and looked up at me and reached his arms around my neck. With tears rolling down my checks, I placed my little big boy in his crib. He will always be my special little boy. He is our first born. I know if we are Blessed with another child God will just give me a bigger heart so I can love them as much, but I cannot imagine that. Although I miss Rex while he is at work, I truly cherish the time Ry and I have with each other.

Lions, Tigers and bears!!!!!!
Today my amazing sister and her two beautiful daughters met Rex, Ry and I at the zoo. It was Ryan's first visit, and let me tell you I was an emotional wreck. I am going to do no justice in this blog about how amazing it was for me as a mother. At one point in my life I remember praying for a child, along with that I kept praying that one day I could take them to the zoo. I have some wonderful memories as a child at the zoo. Today I was able to take my 13 month big little boy to the zoo. It was a total gift, and I truly cherished every moment. Ryan really loved the polar bears, they came right to the glass. He just stared at them. We bought Ry a stuffed polar bear, he loves it he holds it and kisses it. This is the first connection he really has ever had with a stuffed animal. We sat on the grass and had peanut butter and jelly for lunch along with fruit and juice boxes for lunch. We took the wagon, Ryan however had a different idea. He wanted to walk, he thinks he is such a big little boy. There is also a new kid zone. Ry went crazy. He was running around, climbing and even going down a big slide. He sat with Elisha and they went down together, Ry laughed the entire time. I was that mom all day who had both the camera and the video camera going all of the time. Although I do not think I will ever forget this special day!!! Enjoy the pictures.
Thanks Nana and Poppy for the season pass to the zoo!!!!!

Mud Pies
Ryan has officially had his first mud pie. Yes I am being serious. Today while Rexer was working in the yard we stuck Ryan in the middle of a dirt mound. He was playing in in for a while and then all of the sudden he decided that he wanted to eat some dirt. It was pretty cute and really he did not eat that much dirt. He loves to throw the dirt and feel it between his toes. Auntie bought him an awesome pair of boots, but he took them off so he could put his feet in the dirt. His shirt says future firefighter, but he really seems to live the dirt so he might a gardener. It is so much fun to watch him figure it all out. He Rex was raking the lawn, and Ryan was coping him with his little rake. I need to get Ryan a little lawn mower so when we finally have grass Father and Son can mow the lawn together. Ry's will have bubbles coming out of it, but how fun!!!! Ryan is walking really well. He is getting so confident that he is actually running some times. I love the sound of his feet on the floor.

Hello Sunshine!!!!
The past two days have been so fabulous!!!! The sun is out and it feels like Spring. It is so rejuvenating to have some nice weather. We have been outside most of the time. We cranked out the sun block and put Ryan in play clothes and worked in the yard. He has loved being outside. Ryan is walking better each day. Honestly I am in no hurry, he will be running around before we know it. He has been Daddy's little man the last few days, they have been playing in the dirt and laughing like crazy. Rex continues to prep the yard for the fence, I get to do a little yard work but mostly I get to play with Ryan outside. Besides walking updates on Ryan, he ate with a fork tonight at dinner. His favorite toy is a whisk and he loves to mix things in bowls. He also loves to throw rocks, play in the dirt and in Bunker's outside water bowl. Here are some fun pictures form the last few days. The overalls are from Grandma Phyllis all the way from Montana.

After some much needed pampering today I was starting to feel a bit better. Rex came home early from work and took Ryan to his meeting. Tonight my mom had some girlfriends over for BUNKO. My dad and Grandpa got kicked out of the house, they ended up over here. The last thing honestly I wanted to do was cook dinner, but I did. We had tacos, my dad put olives on Ryan's fingers. Ryan was unsure what he was suppose to do with the things on his fingers so he smashed them. It was cute. Rexer did the dishes and I gave Ryan a bath. After the bath I gave my dad and grandpa strawberry ice cream for desert. I was up putting things away in the kitchen and Ry was watching the M's game with the guys. I walked down the stairs and my Grandpa was sneaking Ryan ice cream. Grandpa was talking in a quite voice telling Ryan not to tell Mommy. I snapped the pictures above with out my Grandpa knowing. I finally said Grandpa and startled both Ry and Grandpa Ralph. They both new they were doing something wrong. It was adorable. Ry proceeded to eat most of Grandpas all natural strawberry ice cream. I know that Ryan will not remember Grandpa Ralph, but these moments and pictures are priceless to me. Totally worth making dinner.
Sick of being sick
I have nothing really nice to say in this post. I am so sick of being sick. Ry seems to be feeling better, which is good. The problem is that I am totally sick, I had a fever last night of 102. I have the sore throat, cough well basically the works. Just a really bad cold. My house, well you can imagine it looks like a tornado stormed through here. Rex was on shift yesterday and is in a meeting right now. We went to visit Rex at work. Not so Ryan could see his daddy, but so I could have a break. I sat in the recliner and Rex played with Ryan. I did get to eat three meals yesterday, thanks to a lunch date with Auntie Kelly-thanks Kel!!!!! So like the song goes rain rain go away, I am singing sickness, sickness go a way seriously never come back another day.

Follow up
This afternoon we went to the doctor for a follow up from Ryan's emergency room visit. The thing is, he is still sick. Very sick. He continues to run a fever, is not sleeping or eating. Grandma came to the doctor with me-thank God. They had to look at his ears, listen to his lungs and draw blood. Everything came back negative. His lungs are clear, he does not have an ear infection anymore, he does not have a cold and his white blood count is good. He has had a allergy test and nothing is showing up. The thing is that we cannot get rid of his fever and now he also has a diaper rash from the antibiotics. I just feel so bad for him. The doctor sent us up the street to do another chest x-ray. We are waiting for the results. Rex met us there, which was nice I hate taking him to get tests done. Mom and I were in the waiting room and we could hear Ryan crying through the walls. We are all home and he is in better spirits, now that Rex is home. I am just totally frustrated. Yesterday he seemed to be feeling better, but now he is just sick again. You are never too sick for a tea party with Papa. Hopefully my next post will not be about a sick kiddo!!!

Tea Party with Mommy
Yes I know that Ryan is a boy, but I think that it is important that he does other things besides playing with gender specific toys. Ryan has a baby doll and now a new tea set. So today we had a tea party. It was pretty cute. He was drinking out of the cup. He thought I was funny because I talked with an English accent. I was surprised how long I was able to hold his attention with the tea set. He kept putting toys inside the teapot and opening the lid. Ry is starting to feel better, he is still running a slight fever but he is definitely getting back to normal. I am just thankful that he is feeling better, it is so hard when your child is sick and you can do nothing to make them better. He is smiling more and actually playing. Love the socks??? The only time that Ryan's sock match is if Rexer gets him dressed. It is a Buchanan thing!!!!!

Well the plan was to be off to Montana, but since I am writing a blog you all know that did not happen. Quick recap. For what seems like forever our little guy has been sick. Translation about 6 weeks-we think. Last night I hit my breaking point. Ryan sat on the couch all day with fever. It ran between 101-103. He was supper snugly and cried most of the day. He woke up that morning at 2:30 am. We could not break the fever so at about 2 am this morning we drove to the emergency room. After a couple of hours, testing and everyone coming in the room to see us we finally got to go home with some peace of mind. Ry has some kind of infection/fluid around his lungs. It is not quite pneumonia, but it is close. He also has an ear infection. They gave us some antibiotics, a shot and sent us home. I was so thankful for the staff at the hospital, they were amazing. Thank God for good nurses that are nice and who care. Most of them know Rex, which helped out. We all crashed out in our bed and got some sleep finally. Rex and Ryan slept until 12. I called home and I knew our little boy was better when I heard he was eating waffles with his Papa. One of both of their favorite meals. By the time I got home from the store we were all ready to get outside, so that we did. Rexer worked in the yard and Ry and I played. He had lovely green snot coming out of his nose, but he was active and happy. It feels so nice to have an end insight to the never ending sickness that has been looming over the Orcutt household.

RRRRRRRRR!!!!
Like father, like son
Today was a pretty lazy day. Ry is still not feeling all that well. He had his one year check up. He is 22lbs 10 oz and 32 innches long. Tall and skinny, a true Orcutt. Not only is Ry like his Daddy because he likes meatloaf it looks like he might also have a few allergies. Today at his appointment they had to take blood to do some allergy testing. Hopefully it will give us some answers in to why he has been so sick and why he does not sleep through the night. I would love some answers. Having a sick child is hard on everyone. Enjoy the picture of the snotty nose.

Happy Birthday Ryan!!!!!

This time one year ago Rex and I were just getting use to the fact that we were parents. Ryan was born at 2:36 pm. I remember the instant connection. As soon as he was thrown on my chest I was smitten in love with him. Today we woke up and went to breakfast was a family. Both Rex and I have had our moments where we do the whole I cannot believe that he is one thing. Then it is usually followed with tears and a favorite memory for the past year. Our little boy is walking, starting to talk more. He says momma, daddy, go and up. He also makes this great noise when my sister or the cousins are around. He loves to clap, wave good-bye and give high fives. Of course he does none of these things when I want him to, but he still does them. I woke up this morning and just laughed, my house is cluttered with toys and filled with Ryan and Rex's laughter. God is good, Ryan continues to challenge me and to Bless me. He is so amazing. Before I had Ryan I had a dream about a little boy. I could see him from a distance. That little boy who was in my dreams was Ryan. We are blessed!
